PHILOSOPHY

Why we teach it this way

In the current era of AI, and due to its unreasonable popularity, students willing to pursue hacking are often unable to participate in novel research and heavily depend on LLMs, breaking and preventing that one skill hacking requires: thinking. We aim to foster an environment for students to understand the history behind hacking and how it came to be, while developing their unique way of thinking. We must understand that to simply prompt your way through challenges is catastrophic to the mind and how it affects one's cognitive abilities while in the process of learning.

To begin with, we must learn to use operating systems, a way of communicating with computers that paves a path to not just mastery but the ability to understand how systems work from within. This grants us the ability to express ourselves creatively and refine our thinking abilities and improve our overall cognition, not limited to just systems. In hacking, intuition plays a major role, and we believe that with enough practice an individual will not only understand systems but also tinker with them to play by their own methodology.

Additionally, in learning the vast social and cultural history of the field, we understand the ever-evolving context of what we create. Such an understanding enriches our approach to the subject, as well as guides us to observe how computers interact with and shape our lives on a daily basis. Through this course, learners will explore the technicalities of hacking in depth, and engage creatively. For the learner, even if they may not pursue hacking professionally, the process of learning it provides an opportunity to understand and perceive the technological world they live in.

STUDENTS

What students say

Arjun Kumar

Cyber Security Student

"The CTF sessions made me think for myself instead of Googling."

I came in thinking hacking was about running tools. The CTF exercises forced me to slow down, read the output, and think through the problem instead of searching for a writeup. By the end I could take on a Hack The Box machine without hand-holding. That shift in thinking is what I got from this course.

Nivetha Raman

Cyber Security Student

"They taught the history and the thinking, not just the tools."

What stood out was the balance between theory and practice. We learned how the web actually works before attacking it, and the Burp Suite and nmap sessions were hands-on the whole way. The conversations about the history of hacking changed how I look at the field.

FAQ

Questions

Practical answers about the course and the venue.

Why cybersecurity?

It is one of the few fields where you learn how systems actually work by trying to break them. The fundamentals you pick up here apply to every other area of computing.

Why offline?

It is much easier to interact with participants and address their issues one to one if the classes are conducted offline.

Do I need prior cybersecurity experience?

No. The course starts with networking and how web applications work, then builds up to tools and CTFs. No prior security background is required.

Do I need to know Linux already?

No. Module 3 introduces Linux from scratch: installing it, using the terminal, file permissions, and the basic networking commands you'll need later.

Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes. You will be provided a certificate from SICCSEGV.

How can I learn cybersecurity in just 24 hours?

24 hours is enough to build a solid foundation: how networks and web apps work, the tools, and how to approach a CTF. Mastery comes from practice after the course.

What tools will I use?

nmap and Burp Suite for the core tooling, Linux as the working environment, and Hack The Box, TryHackMe and W3Challs for the CTF work.

Can I use AI tools during the course?

The course is built around learning to think for yourself. References and documentation are fine, but the final project has to be completed without AI help.

What is the final project?

You'll complete a Hack The Box machine or a W3Challs challenge without any AI assistance. The point is to prove you can think through a problem on your own.

Are installments available for the fee payment?

No. The participants are expected to make the full payment before the course.

Is the venue air conditioned?

Yes. The venue is completely air conditioned.

Does the venue have drinking water?

Yes. The venue has drinking water. However, the participant is requested to bring their own water bottles to fill water.

Does the venue have charging facilities?

Yes. The venue has charging facilities. The participants are requested to bring their chargers and adapters if necessary.

How can I reach the venue?

Nearest metro: Anna Nagar East. Nearest bus stop: VOC Nagar Bus Stop, Ayanavaram.
